About the game

Harappa (formerly known as Indus City Builder) is a historical city-building game about the rise and transformation of the Indus Valley Civilization, one of the ancient world’s great urban cultures, contemporary with Egypt and Mesopotamia but too often left out of the story.

Establish riverside villages and help them grow into planned settlements of mud brick and stone. Agriculture, seasonal rivers, household needs, craft, and exchange shape how each community develops.

This public playtest contains three Early Harappan missions

Inspired by classic  city builders such as Caesar III and Pharaoh, the game is grounded in the archaeological record. Its sites, resources, technologies, and challenges reflect the available evidence of what life in the Indus Valley was actually like.

This game is the result of over 10 years of iteration.  All music and sound effects were sourced from approved creative commons sources. In game graphics and assets are original. I did use AI assistance in the last few months - AI was used for creating large image backgrounds that are used in the game menus, as well as assist in generating some game assets. All game decisions, verification, and game game design was human.
